Last night we celebrated my Granddaddy's 90th birthday with a yummy yellow cake with chocolate frosting baked by my Mama. A good time was had by all!

Long overdue
I am truly embarrassed about having not posted since April. How did that happen? Anyway, to make amends, let me catch you up a bit. When last we met, the boy who I thought was avoiding me, quit avoiding me and so I began my plotting and scheming so that he would properly "Notice me, notice me!" Well small groups continued and he continued to be friendly and talkative and then NADA.
After the last meeting, we stand by our cars chatting and he even says that he thinks it is good for us, who are in a gap, to spend time in peoples' homes. Ok - you recognize that we are in a similar life situation...and...That's it. He went right back to avoiding. That was May - literally have not spoken to him since, though we have been at church together, twice a week for almost every week since. It didn't take me long to just say to myself - ok, I'll take that as a sign. Writing him off, he's forgotten. But it does make me want to hit him with my pocketbook, a little bit.
Upon further reflection, I decided that my original thought regarding him was probably correct - he is too good. Since then, my theory has only been confirmed. Firstly, he is going to Peru next week on one of our church's mission trips (I want to go too but that is beside the point). Secondly, last night he had an African-American young man about 8 or 9 years old with him at church. My first thought was Big Brothers Big Sisters type thing. It is like one of my favorite exchanges between Anne and Marilla in the Anne of Avonlea movie version.
Upon learning that Diana is engaged:
Anne says to Marilla, "Fred is terribly good."
Marilla responds, "That is exactly what he should be. Would you want to marry a wicked man?"
Anne says, (and I totally know where she's at)"Well I wouldn't marry anyone who was really wicked. But I think I'd like it if he could be wicked, and wouldn't."

Julia, Mary Jo and Charlene are at a Sushi restaurant waiting for Suzanne. A man approaches their table -
MAN: Allow me to introduce myself -- Ray Don Simpson.
JULIA: There's no need for introductions, Ray Don, we know who you are.
RAY DON: (smiling) You do?
JULIA: Of course. You're the guy who is always wherever women gather or try to be alone. You want to eat with us when we're dining in hotels, you want to know if the book we're reading is any good, or if you can keep up company on the plane. And I want to thank you, Ray Don, on behalf of all the women in the world, for your unfailing attention and concern. But read my lips and remember, as hard as it is to believe, sometimes we like talking just to each other, and sometimes we like just being alone.
But perhaps the most classic "terminator tirade" is this one:

Small group went surprisingly well. Not only did he not avoid me but frequently made eye contact and actively engaged me in conversation. Could I have been totally mistaken about the avoidance? Was it just a coincidence or my own imagination? I may never know. But on the upside we are on quite friendly terms now. Anything else remains to be seen...
